How to add google maps to your website

Have you ever wondered on how to add a location map to your website? If you are like most businesses, you probably include contact information and your store’s address on your website. Assuming that your store is on a well-known street, your visitors will probably be able to find you quite easily. However, if your store is in a remote location or if a visitor is not familiar with the area, then they might decide not to visit because they don’t know where to find you, and don’t want to get lost trying. One easy solution to this problem is to add a map (or explicit directions to your store).

Adding a map is very simple and free when you use tools such as Google Maps. A sample map is included below which points to New Delhi, Indian capital

Instructions

To add this map to your website, all your need is (1) a little knowledge of HTML and (2) a way of editing and updating the HTML for your website. If you have those, then follow these simple instructions:

  1. Go to the Google Maps website.
  2. Enter the address for your store or office location.
  3. You should now see a map of your store and the surrounding area. Use the controls on the map to zoom in or zoom out.
  4. Locate the Link option on the far right side of the screen and click it. It will display two sets of code. One field contains the code that you might use to link directly to a map on the Google website. The other field contains the code that you need to insert a map on your website, like the map that we have included above. (Optionally, you can customize the output by selecting the customize option.)
  5. Copy and paste the code into your website’s source code and save/upload the changes.

And that’s it!

Adding a map to your website is easy, so there’s no excuse not to include one. So if you display an address on your website be sure that you also have a map. Need help adding it to your website, let us know.
